Return is a procedurally generated image created for the Syntax 2022 demoparty in Melbourne. The image is generated by a GLSL fragment shader that has been packed into an executable file that is 3,944 bytes in size.
Return placed first in the Nuskool Graphics category at Syntax 2022 and represents my first contribution to the demoscene since my initial foray in 1996.
Return also features in the online gallery of executable graphics curated by yx at executable.graphics.
The cloud/nebula in the foreground is generated using volumetric rendering, based on the technique described in an article by Chris Wallis.
The blue and orange nebulae in the background are generated using the kaliset fractal algorithm.
To generate the executable file from the fragment shader I used Blossom by yx.
