No Mushroom (2020)

Light installation created by Jared Berghold and Luc Small for the virtual event, COVIVID 2020

No mushroom is a miniature light installation created with collaborator, Luc Small for the virtual event, COVIVID 2020. The event was hosted by the talented collective Amigo & Amigo and held in lieu of the Sydney Vivid Light festival that was regrettably cancelled in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The artwork is constructed from a recycled toilet roll, custom-designed 3D-printed cap and 15 LEDs. Hidden inside the toilet roll is an Arduino which runs software to animate the LEDs. The animation was designed to exploit the fractured pathways of light that emit through the slits under the mushroom’s cap.
